Assistant Manager Sam Cartwright is leaving the club for a few months to go travelling the world. Gaffer Adam Shillcock has moved swiftly to fill the big boots of Sam, by bringing Martyn “Slap” Davies
Manager Adam Shillcock said - Sam is a huge loss to the football club. He is genuine, loyal and someone whose company I enjoy 10 fold. When he returns from his travels Alport will be his home.
I felt it important on the next stage on this journey to bring in some experience to the group - Slap fits that bill, living locally and having watched a number of our games already he’s knows where this group is at. His experience of playing and managing is unparalleled locally and it’s an idea I’ve been toying with for sometime since my days at Drayton - I'm delighted to welcome him to club as part of our staff.
On joining the club Martyn said -
“ Although the phone call was a bit out of the blue I felt like it came at the right time for me to get back into football and hopefully I can add something to the mix. In terms of technical and tactical details I can already see that the management team have it well covered but I think my experience and perspective on the level of football and how to go about winning games can be useful, in particular in forward areas and carrying a threat on goal.
The football club is really well run and I look forward to seeing where we can go from here and I thank everyone for making me feel so welcome so far”
We all wish Sam the best, be safe on your travels but make the most of your time away, and we’ll see you back at the Air2Root soon, and a warm Alport welcome to Slap.
